KUALA LUMPUR – The 3rd Family Business Sustainability & Entrepreneurship Conference (FBSEC) 2026 saw Karangkraf emerge as one of the award recipients, taking home the Family Business Excellence Award (Mid-Tier & Large Enterprise Category).
The award was presented by Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri to Karangkraf, represented by Sinar Karangkraf's chief executive officer (CEO) Farah Hussamuddin, who is also the daughter of Karangkraf Group founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub.
Farah said the award reflects recognition of Karangkraf’s legacy as a family business that has preserved its core values while adapting to changing times.
She said it acknowledges Karangkraf’s nearly five-decade journey, from a knowledge-based publishing enterprise to a multi-platform media group that remains relevant and principled.
“As we go through rebranding and a new corporate direction, our focus is on clarity of purpose and the courage to transform without compromising our identity.
“This award affirms that such an approach is both sustainable and resilient across generations,” she said.
At the same time, she noted that Karangkraf’s success as a family business is rooted in consistent values, professional governance and continuity of vision across generations.
She said that although it is family-owned, the company is managed professionally with a clear separation between ownership and operations.
“Our key strength also lies in our ability to adapt – from print to digital – as well as our willingness to listen to societal changes.
“Legacy is not automatically inherited, but carried as a responsibility to be strengthened.
“Moving forward, Karangkraf will focus on ongoing digital transformation, impactful content development and long-term sustainability,” she said.
Farah added that the group aims to continue building a multi-platform media ecosystem grounded in credibility, trust and critical thinking.
“At the same time, we are investing in talent development and next-generation leadership to ensure Karangkraf not only endures, but remains relevant and meaningful to society.
“This award is not an endpoint, but a catalyst for greater responsibility,” she said.
The conference, themed “From Legacy to Longevity: Sustaining Family Businesses Across Generations”, brought together more than 200 policymakers, industry leaders and regional participants.

In addition to Karangkraf, five other recipients were honoured: the Visionary Founder Excellence Award was presented to Padzilah Enda Sulaiman (Siti Khadijah Apparel Sdn Bhd); the Aspiring Next Generation Leadership Award to Siti Khawa Jannah Nasuha (Mak Siti Products (M) Sdn Bhd); the Outstanding Family Business Award (SME Category) to Structural Repairs (M) Sdn Bhd and IANA Corporations Sdn Bhd; while Marrybrown received the Family Business Excellence Award (Mid-Tier & Large Enterprise Category).
Meanwhile, FBSEC 2026 organising chairperson Saliza Abdullah said family businesses make up a significant portion of Malaysia’s small and medium enterprise (SME) sector and play a vital role in the country’s economic resilience.
She said a key milestone of this year’s conference was the inaugural launch of the Family Business Sustainability Awards, aimed at recognising family business leaders and next-generation successors who demonstrate excellence in leadership, innovation and long-term sustainability.
She added that FBSEC is an annual conference advocating for the sustainability of family businesses and the empowerment of women, and will return in April 2027.
