Another six highways have agreed to participate in the open payment system for toll collection, expected to take effect from September this year. With this, motorists will soon be able to use their credit and debit cards for the payment of their toll fees on a total of 18 highways, in contrast to 12 highways at present.
The six new highways that are also expected to be equipped with the open payment system soon include:
- North-South Expressway (PLUS)
- Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (SPDH)
- Linkedua Highway
- Grand Saga Highway
- Grand Sepadu Highway
- Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway (SPE)
“The participation of these six highways means that a total of 35 lanes will be opened for the convenience of using the open payment system,” said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
Meanwhile, the original 12 highways that have already enabled support for the open payment system thus far include Maju Expressway (MEX), Western Kuala Lumpur Traffic Dispersal Scheme (SPRINT Expressway), and Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP). The initiative was officially kickstarted in August last year, and sought to provide motorists with more payment options to pay their toll fees instead of being restricted only to Touch ‘n Go (TNG)-related payment methods.
