SJK(C) Kuang Yu in Batu Kawan has officially obtained its Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC), marking another major milestone for the school’s new campus.

The new school building, which costs more than RM20 million, is the result of an eight-year journey that began with discussions on the school’s relocation in 2018. The school subsequently obtained relocation and building approvals from the Ministry of Education in 2019.

The CCC handover ceremony was held last Sunday and attended by Penang State Executive Councillor for Local Government and Town & Country Planning H’ng Mooi Lye, who represented Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

H’ng said the Penang state government has consistently supported schools of various streams, including Chinese vernacular schools, through assistance in land, infrastructure and education development.

He noted that the land for the new SJK(C) Kuang Yu campus was allocated by the state government, describing the project as a result of cooperation between the state government, the school board and the wider community.

The completion of the new campus also brings the number of Chinese primary schools in South Seberang Perai to eight, up from seven previously.

RM5 million still needed for facilities

Despite the completion of the building, school board chairman and building committee head Dato Goh Kim Heong said the campus is currently largely empty and is expected to require around RM5 million for hardware, software and other facilities.

He thanked the consultants, building committee members and members of the community who supported the project, particularly during the early stages when funding was limited.

Architectural consultant Mei Chee Seong described the new campus as a “school for the future”, saying the next phase would focus on developing its facilities and resources.

He expressed hope that the school would eventually become a community growth and education centre.

After eight years of planning and construction, the CCC marks an important step forward for SJK(C) Kuang Yu. The next challenge will be fully equipping the new campus so it can serve future generations of students.
