
Kota Kinabalu: SK Napong emerged as the overall champion after winning eight gold, two silver and three bronze medals at the North Zone Malaysian School Sports Council (MSSM) athletic competitions here recently.
The runner-up was won by SK Narawang with a collection of three golds, four silvers and two bronzes, while SK Poring was in third place after obtaining two golds, two silvers and one bronze.
M Joenicklie Johali from SK Sagiban, Nur Qarirah Farahiyah Rahimin for SK Napong, and Narista Fred from SK Narawang, stepped up to receive athlete medals.
Meanwhile, Assistant District Education Officer of the Co-curricular Student Development Sector Unit, Jaminus Agang said that sports can produce quality students who are able to compete in life, globally.

“The commitment and initiative of the management committee, especially the SK Bongkud, should be commended for successfully handling the North Zone Malaysian School Sports Council (MSSM) level sports.
“I believe this success is the result of solid cooperation from all parties, especially parents and teachers,” he said when officiating the event, at the Ranau Sports Complex.
Athletics and games are mandatory events for schools to unearth students’ talents, according to Jaminus.
Meanwhile, SK Bongkud Headmaster and Chairman of the Tournament Management Committee, Ronny Lazarus expressed his gratitude to everyone who made the event a success.
“I would like to thank Jaminus for officiating this event and the solid support from all the school principals involved in making the tournament this year a success.
“We hope that the event to be held in years to come will be more successful and reveal more talents,” he said.
