Skipper killed in Sandakan boats collision

SANDAKAN: A 42-year-old skipper was killed in an accident involving two boats in Sungai Bungon, here, last Tuesday.

Acting District Police Chief Supt Ramasamy Kuppan said the victim died of head injuries following 3pm incident.

He said a police team from the Criminal Investigation Division, IPD and District Police Station, assisted by a marine police team, rushed to the scene after receiving a call.

“The accident happened when the boats, namely a passenger boat carrying 12 passengers heading to Sandakan from Bungon Island and another with two on board traveling in the opposite direction, collided at a narrow bend in Sungai Bungon,” he added.

The victim’s body has been sent to the Duchess of Kent Hospital for an autopsy. The case is being investigated under Section 304A of the Penal Code.
