SM Warehouses, a unit of SM Prime Holdings Inc., has expanded the logistics capacity being provided to Shopee's delivery partners with the turnover of a new facility in Pasig City.
The 40,000-square-meter Mega First Mile hub will be operated by SPX Express (SPX), the logistics and delivery arm serving Shopee, as an urban distribution hub for Metro Manila.
It brought the total logistics space leased by SPX and Scommerce Philippines Inc. (Scommerce) from SM Warehouses to over 126,000 square meters, including an approximately 86,000-square-meter lease at SM Prime’s Silangan Warehouse complex in Laguna.
Scommerce provides warehousing and fulfillment solutions to sellers and businesses operating on the Shopee platform.
“Our strengthening relationship with SPX and Scommerce reflects our commitment to supporting businesses and local MSMEs with well-located, adaptable spaces that improve efficiency and enable long-term growth,” said Alexis Ortiga, head of SM Prime’s commercial properties group.
SPX head Martin Yu said the Pasig facility would complement operations at the Silangan facility by bringing inventory closer to customers in Metro Manila.
The Pasig facility is designed for high-volume operations and is expected to increase processing capacity and shorten last-mile delivery times, while the larger Silangan facility will support regional fulfillment and sorting operations connecting Southern Luzon to SPX’s nationwide network.
Shares of SM Warehouses parent SM Prime on Thursday slipped P0.06, or 0.33 percent, to close at P18.24 each.
