The Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has bolstered security by installing new CCTV cameras at the intersection of Jalan Ampang and Jalan P. Ramlee.
DBKL stated that these “smart” cameras will facilitate the monitoring of high-risk areas and help identify unlicensed activities, such as illegal street vending and “ulat foto“ (unauthorised photo touts). Furthermore, authorities plan to install signage explicitly banning paid photography services throughout the KLCC precinct.
Hannah Yeoh gets a firsthand look at the newly-installed CCTVs
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, took to her Facebook page after personally inspecting the newly-installed CCTVs.
“I joined the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur to visit the KLCC Precinct Security Management Centre, where we received a detailed briefing on the latest security systems around KLCC.
“We observed the CCTV operations firsthand, as well as the new speakers and public announcement system at the Jalan Ampang and Jalan P. Ramlee intersection. This is all to ensure more proactive monitoring and faster response times,” she wrote.
She added that the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is also running ongoing operations to crack down on ulat foto activities in the area.
“This combined effort is key to making sure visitors have a smooth, safe, and hassle-free experience,” she said.
