The cost of travelling to and then attending the 2026 World Cup has left a number of soccer fans from around the globe quite surprised.

In the USA and Canada, most sports fans are accustomed to paying high prices to attend events put on by the NBA, NFL and more.

But soccer fans coming over from Europe have been left quite stunned by just how much alcohol costs in many places across North America.

German fan was not happy with beer prices in Toronto

Before the tournament got underway, beer prices stunned supporters at an England versus New Zealand friendly.

There was similar shock and outrage when the Three Lions played Croatia in their first group game.

At that match, it was revealed that American beer cost $15.95 for 16 oz, while craft/ import beer was listed at $16.95 for 16 oz (pre-tax).

Now, as quoted by Times Call, one German fan was left unhappy after he learned the price of a beer when he watched his side in action against the Ivory Coast in Toronto recently.

He said: “It’s unfair. It’s not right. It’s wrong. It’s three times the cost of what I pay in my country.”

The fan in question is said to have bought a beer that cost him 24.25 Canadian dollars (around $17).

However, while it has been a major talking point among European fans this summer, it is not expected to have any real impact on what stadiums and establishments across North America charge.

Local fans are already paying those prices to watch other sports in the USA and Canada, and as long as they keep spending, it is hard to see prices being reduced.

It does make the World Cup less affordable to many people, but the rising cost of following your country around the globe is just something soccer fans must learn to live with, it seems.
