Socso Labuan presented a Care Box to the family of a worker killed in a commuting accident, highlighting support under its Employment Injury Scheme

LABUAN: No compensation can ever replace the loss of a life, but social security protection can help ease the burden of families left behind after a workplace-related tragedy.

This was reflected in the visit by the Social Security Organisation (Socso) Labuan office to the family of the late Daud Irwansyah Muhammad Siang today, who died in a road accident while riding his motorcycle to work.

During the visit, Labuan Socso handed over a Care Box to the deceased’s family as a gesture of continued concern and support for the dependents of insured persons who died due to employment-related accidents.

Labuan Socso manager Sylvester Candy Anak Pai  said the family is currently receiving Socso pension benefits under the Employment Injury Scheme, which provides protection to eligible dependents following the death of an insured worker due to an employment injury or commuting accident.

He said the initiative was part of its ongoing commitment to safeguarding the welfare of beneficiaries, while ensuring that families affected by workplace-related accidents continue to receive the necessary assistance and attention.

“The organisation also encouraged employers and workers to register and contribute to social security schemes to ensure workers and their families are protected in the event of fatal accidents while at work or while commuting to and from the workplace,” he said.
