KOTA BHARU – A soldier was charged in the Sessions Court here today with abusing his five-year-old daughter by kicking her at an eatery in Jalan Kuala Krai last Friday.
Mohamed Nisa Mohamed Nasir, 40, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out to him before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.
According to the charge, he allegedly kicked the girl at an eatery at Lot 143, Batu 2, Jalan Kuala Krai, here at 10.55pm on Sept 11, 2026.
He was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, punishable under Section 31(1) of the same Act.
If convicted, he faces a fine of up to RM50,000, imprisonment for up to 20 years, or both.
Earlier, the prosecution did not offer bail, citing concerns that the accused could interfere with the victim, who is also his biological daughter.
However, the defence requested bail, saying the accused had served in the military for 19 years and has three children.
The court was also told that his wife is unemployed, requires haemodialysis treatment and relies on him to accompany her to regular hospital appointments.
The defence said the accused had no previous record of domestic violence offences or complaints and was not a flight risk as he was subject to the control of his military unit.
The court granted him bail of RM10,000 with one local surety, subject to several conditions, including that he must not interfere with any prosecution witnesses, particularly the victim.
He was also ordered to surrender his passport to the court, if he has one, and report to the Pengkalan Chepa Police Station or the nearest police station every two weeks until the case is concluded.
The court set Oct 22 for mention for the submission of documents.–BERNAMA
