KUDAT: More than 10,000 people gathered at the town field on Sunday night in a solidarity rally for Zara Qairina Mahathir, coinciding with National Day and Sabah Day 2025.
The event, organised by 15 local activist groups and NGOs, drew participants of all ages from Kudat and nearby districts including Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Matunggong and Pulau Banggi, united in their call for justice and to reject bullying.
Many wore black, carried placards and banners marked with the hashtag “justice for Zara,” and lit up the field with their mobile phone torches while chanting the same slogan.
The programme began with the singing of the national and state anthems, followed by the Rukun Negara pledge and a prayer, before continuing with poetry readings and other performances.
Organising chairman Abidin Mohd Alam of the Sabah Anti-Corruption Advocacy Organisation (SAC) said the peaceful gathering showed Kudat’s strong solidarity in seeking justice and rejecting acts of bullying, more than a month after the passing of 13-year-old Zara Qairina.
