Some 169 young cancer warriors celebrated in back-to-school programme across Malaysia

A TOTAL of 169 young cancer patients were honoured during the “Back-to-School 2026 Programme” Series 12, Zone Tour 3, organised by the Parents and Support Group for Children with Cancer (KIDS).

The initiative aims to provide school assistance to children preparing for the new academic session in January 2026.

“The programme held today marks the launch of the Back-to-School 2026 series, which will be rolled out nationwide according to designated zones,” said KIDS chairman Azniah Mohamed Ghulam.

“Mydin Hypermarket Sdn Bhd has been chosen to kickstart the programme for the Central Zone,” she added.

Future sessions are planned for the Eastern, Southern, and Northern Zones, as well as Sabah and Sarawak, with Waqaf Felda serving as the main sponsor, Azniah said during the launch of the programme in Subang Jaya today.

Hisyam Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of Waqaf Felda, was also present. Azniah explained that the educational aid is designed to alleviate the financial burden faced by families of children undergoing cancer treatment.

“This initiative ensures that the children’s education is not disrupted by the time and costs associated with hospital treatments,” she said, noting that the programme also celebrates young cancer warriors who achieved excellent results in the 2024 Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) examinations.

Hisyam Ahmad highlighted Waqaf Felda’s continued collaboration with KIDS, which began last year as part of its support for vulnerable groups.

“Last year, we contributed RM27,000 to this programme, and RM14,000 this year. The programme has now become an annual event fostering partnership between Waqaf Felda and KIDS,” he said.

He also revealed discussions to expand collaboration into other initiatives, including programmes during the upcoming Ramadan period.

The Back-to-School 2026 programme represents a combined effort to support young cancer patients academically, ensure continuity in their education, and recognise their achievements despite the challenges posed by their medical conditions. - November 29, 2025
