Congress mayoral candidate Kamal Diwan, who lost the Sonepat mayoral election, thanked the voters who supported him and said their trust would remain his strength.
Notably, BJP candidate Rajiv Jain defeated Diwan for the second consecutive time in a mayoral contest. Earlier, Jain had defeated Diwan in the mayoral bypoll held in March 2025 by a margin of 34,970 votes. In Wednesday’s election, Jain registered victory by 23,247 votes.
Accepting the defeat, Diwan said as many as 54,786 voters had reposed faith in him and his vision. “Their trust is my strength,” he said.
He asserted that he would continue to stand firmly with the residents of Sonepat and keep fighting for their rights. “The public mandate is supreme in democracy,” he said.
Kamal Diwan said the support of 54,786 voters reflected that hundreds of families had accepted his vision and policies.
