TOKYO - The joint venture of Sony Group Corporation and Honda Motor Co. will introduce its Afeela 1 electric vehicle to the Japanese market in the first half of 2027, Kyodo News reported the company said recently.

Sony Honda Mobility Inc. made the announcement as it unveiled a prototype of the vehicle at a media event ahead of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026, one of the world's largest technology trade fairs, which opens Tuesday in Las Vegas.

Afeela 1, a four-door, five-seater sedan equipped with advanced sensors and an immersive audio system, was initially scheduled to make its Japan debut in 2026, but the date was pushed back.

The company began taking orders last year for the Afeela 1 in the United States (US), priced from US$89,900, ahead of its launch this year.

The model incorporates advanced interactive services powered by generative artificial intelligence, in partnership with US tech giant Microsoft Corporation.

This year's CES, dubbed the world's most powerful tech event, will run through Friday in the western US state of Nevada. - BERNAMA-KYODO
