Months after it originally made its global debut, the Sony Xperia 1 VIII is finally in Malaysia. While it goes without saying that it’s a rather niche smartphone, the Japanese device still has its fans, and to sweeten the deal—and perhaps the price tag—Sony is also offering a bunch of freebies to early birds.

The Sony Xperia 1 VIII will come in a single configuration with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, priced at RM6,499. Available in four different colour options from the Sony Malaysia website as well as authorised retailers nationwide, those who snag one from now till 31 August will also get a pair of WF-1000XM6 wireless earbuds worth RM1,599 and a cover with stand worth RM185 for free, while stocks last.

Featuring an ‘ore’-inspired design, the Xperia 1 VIII comes in Graphite Black, Iolite Silver, Garnet Red and Native Gold, with a slight texture to the back and sides. It houses a 6.5-inch FHD+ OLED display, with a 120Hz refresh rate, full coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, REC.2020 HDR and a peak brightness of 4,500nits.
Under the hood, you’ll find a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 system-on-chip, mated to 12GB of memory and 256GB of storage; external storage of up to 2TB is also supported. It comes with Android 16 out of the box, with up to 4 major OS upgrades and 6 years of security patches.
As for its cameras, there’s a main 48MP, f/1.9 shooter with a 1/1.35″ Exmor T mobile sensor offering a native 24mm focal length, flanked by a 48MP, f/2.8 with a 1/1.56″ Exmor RS mobile sensor for 70mm telephoto with a third 48MP, f/2.0 ultrawide shooter; a 12MP, f/1.20 front camera sits in the bezel above the display.
Keeping the lights on is a 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast wired charging and 15W wireless charging. Other features of note include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, an IP68 dust and water resistance rating as well as a 3.5mm audio jack.
