The South African national team will make a delayed flight to the football World Cup later on Monday after all players have now received vias for Mexico.

The team was originally due to travel on Sunday but the governing bvody SAFA said the departure had to be postponed due to "challenges regarding Visas for some players and officials."

SAFA gave an update on Monday, saying: "Bafana Bafana will depart for Mexico today after visas were secured for all the players on Sunday, 31 May 2026.

"While the visa delays resulted in the team losing a valuable day in its travel and preparation schedule, SAFA is satisfied that the matter has now been substantially resolved and that the team’s World Cup plans remain firmly on course."

SAFA confirmed that four delegation members were still awaiting their visas, which was also mentioned by Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie in an earlier post on X which had already mentioned that all players had now obtained vias.

"All @BafanaBafana players received their visas to travel to the USA, outstanding is assistant coach, team doctor, head of security and one analyst," he said.

South Africa are due to face co-hosts Mexico in the opening match of the World Cup on June 11 in Mexico City. They will also play the Czech Republic and South Korea in Group A.
