MANILA, Philippines — Wooyoung Cho of South Korea emerged victorious in the Philippine Golf Championship after a stellar performance on the final day of the tournament on Sunday at the Wack Wack Golf Country Club in Mandaluyong City.

Closing with a stellar 5-under 67, Cho finished at 11-under par (277) to claim his first Asian Tour crown.

Despite his up-and-down performance across four rounds (69-70-71-67), Cho came in clutch on the final day.

“This is my first event [that is] not in South Korea, [and this is] my first International event, and it means so much to me. I want to go to the  US [next] and this really means so much to me," Cho told the media

He shot 20-feet away in his final pot, scoring a birdie that allowed him to seal his title.

“I think today is very good, [and what’s difficult] is the mental, my mental [is not as] its best, but what's important is… is that I try to get better and better and better. I’m like okay, just next, so that we can score a birdie,” the 24-year-old golfer said.

Thailand’s Pavit Tangkamolprasert finished second while Travis Smyth of Australia wound up third

The Philippines’ best performer was Keanu Jahns, who posted a score of -1, closing with a 287 total.

This is the first time in a decade and a half that the Philippines is part of the map of the Asian Tour.
