SEOUL, Oct 17 — South Korean author Baek Se-hee, known for her best-selling book I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki, has died.
According to Chosun Biz, Baek, 35, was declared brain-dead and passed away at National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital, where multiple organs were donated, giving five individuals a chance at new lives, officials said.
A message from Baek’s younger sibling was shared through the Korea Organ Donation Agency, describing her as a loving and gentle person. As reported by Chosun Biz, the note expressed a heartfelt farewell.
“Older sister, who shared hearts with people through writing. Knowing your kind heart that loved much and could not hate anyone, now rest comfortably in the sky. I love you so much.”
The agency stated that Baek’s organs were successfully donated yesterday.
Baek was born in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, and was the second of three daughters. A passionate reader from childhood, she studied creative writing at university and later worked in publishing for five years.
She gained widespread recognition after publishing a book chronicling her experience with depression and counselling, which resonated with many readers in South Korea and beyond.
