- South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have announced they are renaming the animated satire to “SOUTH AMERICA”, mocking President Donald Trump's recent proposals to rename geographical locations such as New Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico.
- In a satirical statement to The Independent, the creators ironically praised Apple and Google for updating online maps in line with the name changes, whilst also taking a swipe at parent company Paramount.
- The announcement follows South Park winning its fifth Emmy for Best Animated Show at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys, its first victory in the category since 2013 after a season that heavily satirised Trump.
- The show celebrated its Emmy win on Instagram by targeting Trump's historic complaints about The Apprentice never winning an Emmy, posting an image depicting him clutching a trophy with his trousers around his ankles.
- The long-running animated series is scheduled to return to screens for its 29th season on Wednesday, 16 September.
