  • A significant wildfire erupted in Los Garres, Murcia, a popular holiday destination in southern Spain, burning through 177 hectares of land.
  • Approximately 100 residents were evacuated from their homes due to the blaze, and at least one individual received treatment for burn injuries.
  • Hundreds of emergency personnel, including military units, aircraft, and firefighters, were deployed in an urgent operation to control the extensive fire, which featured a 300-metre front of flames and reached heights of up to 65 feet.
  • Spain's president, Pedro Sanchez, and Murcia's regional president, Fernando Lopez Miras, confirmed that the government mobilised all necessary resources, including aerial support, to assist in extinguishing the fire.
  • The fire was declared stabilised by Wednesday, allowing evacuated residents to return to their properties by Thursday, though a force of 150 personnel remains to secure the perimeter and prevent flare-ups.
