Kota Kinabalu: The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Kota Kinabalu (SPCA KK) strongly condemns the brutal act of animal cruelty in which a stray dog in Tawau was skinned alive.

“This horrific and inhumane act is not only deeply disturbing but also a serious violation of Malaysia’s animal welfare laws,” said SPCA KK President Dr Stuart Chin in a statement Tuesday.

“This degree of cruelty is despicable and, if left unpunished, will further erode public trust in our institutions.

“We call upon the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) Sabah and Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM) to launch an urgent and thorough investigation into this case.”

The perpetrator must be identified, prosecuted and held accountable under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772), which provides for severe penalties for those who commit such heinous crimes against animals.

“Cruelty such as this poses a broader threat to society as studies have shown a link between animal abuse and violent crimes against people. It is imperative for law enforcement authorities to take swift and decisive action to find the person(s) responsible so that they can be charged,” he said.

SPCA KK urges the public to come forward with any information that could assist in identifying the culprit.

“We must work together as a community to ensure that justice is served and that such cruelty is never tolerated.

“We also call on the authorities to enhance efforts in educating the public on responsible animal treatment, strengthening enforcement of animal protection laws, and promoting humane solutions for managing stray animal populations.

“Animal cruelty has no place in a civilised society. We stand firm in our commitment to protecting the welfare of all animals and will continue to advocate for justice in this case.”

For any information related to this case, please contact SPCA KK or report directly to DVS Sabah or PDRM.
