Kota Kinabalu: Consumers in Sabah are urged not to remain silent and to immediately report any increase in prices of goods, especially daily necessities, said State Community Development and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya.

He said public reports to the Sabah office of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) were helpful in the monitoring of price of goods in the State so that it does not overly burden consumers.

He said the monitoring was also carried out through the Special Task Force on Jihad Against Inflation to ensure there was no excessive price increase or improper charges such as the 30 sen charge on egg tray cover in Sabah which went viral on social media recently.

“(Sabah) KPDNHEP does monitor the price movement of goods from time to time as well as the ceiling price of controlled goods including chicken, eggs and cooking oil,” he said after launching the SMK Tansau Graduation and Student Excellence Award ceremony, here, Wednesday.

On June 29, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the establishment of the special task force chaired by the Minister of Communications and Multimedia Tan Sri Annuar Musa to find solutions to the rising cost of living.
