Kota Kinabalu: A special meeting will be called with enforcement agencies to enforce the parking ban on container trailers along Sepanggar Port Road and the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) following a fatal container unloading accident discussed by the Sabah Cabinet.
Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic) said the discussions would involve the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB), Road Transport Department (RTD), police, and City Hall (DBKK).
Ewon, who is also Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Minister, said container hauliers must utilise the newly opened designated transit parking area provided by KKIP instead of parking on road shoulders.
The transit parking site forms part of 10 interim action plans monitored by a multi-agency task force chaired by Ewon to tackle congestion caused by limited container yard space during the port expansion works, which carry an extension of time (EOT) until October 2027.
Meanwhile, Sabah's application to gazette round-the-clock operations at the Sepanggar Bay Container Port remains pending approval from the Ministry of Finance Malaysia, with current 24-hour clearance reliant on overtime arrangements by government agencies, including the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.
