KUALA LUMPUR - National hockey head coach Sarjit Singh has praised his team’s outstanding performance after the Speedy Tigers clinched the gold medal at the ongoing SEA Games with an emphatic 8-0 victory over the hosts.
Speaking to Scoop, Sarjit said the team had been fully focused on their goal from the start, showing discipline, commitment, and excellent teamwork throughout the tournament, which ultimately led to their gold medal triumph.
“I’m proud of our players, coaches, and the entire staff for ensuring we achieved our target. We came here to win the gold medal—and that’s exactly what we did,” he briefly said when contacted.
“I’m also deeply grateful for the trust and support from Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal, team manager Datuk Ahmad Najmi Abdul Razak, the MHC committee, the National Sports Council, and the National Sports Institute.
“Their support was crucial throughout our campaign,” he added.
Malaysia displayed complete dominance in the final at Thailand National Sports University, Chonburi Campus, extending the country’s SEA Games men’s hockey gold tally to 18 since their debut in 1971.
The team has only finished as runners-up once, in 1973.
The national side took the lead after 15 minutes through Muhajir Abdu Rauf, followed by quick goals from Faiz Helmi Jali and Nik Aiman Rozemi, effectively ending Thailand’s early resistance.
In the second half, Fitri Saari and Alfarico Lance Liau added two more before Amanraj Singh completed a hat-trick with three goals in the final five minutes, sealing Malaysia’s emphatic victory.
Meanwhile, the Speedy Tigress, led by Mohd Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim, also secured gold after a commanding 6-0 victory over Indonesia in the final at Chonburi today. - December 19, 2025
