KUALA LUMPUR – National top squash player S. Sivasangari is out of the Commonwealth Games after being involved in a major car accident yesterday.
It is understood that the 23-year-old was a passenger in a car that rear-ended a lorry on the Maju Expressway.
Based on a report by China Press, she was rescued from the vehicle before it caught fire, however she sustained severe injuries to her head and was immediately rushed to Putrajaya Hospital.
She underwent immediate surgery and is understood to be conscious and in stable condition.
The Commonwealth Games is scheduled to begin in Birmingham, England from July 28 to August 8.
Sivasangari was meant to contend for the women’s individual and doubles event alongside teammate Rachel Arnold.
This is the second time a high-profile athlete has been involved in a major accident on the same expressway.
