A SENIOR officer of the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) today appeared in Sessions Court to face charges of allegedly accepting RM50,000 from the son of former Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin in 2018.
Khuzairi Yahaya, 55, who serves as SSM’s deputy chief executive officer for Registration and Business Services, pleaded not guilty before Judge Suzana Hussin.
He is accused of receiving the cash for himself as a civil servant, without consideration, in connection with his official duties.
The prosecution alleges that Khuzairi accepted the money from Muhammad Faisal Hamzah at the SSM@Sentral headquarters in KL Sentral in May 2018.
The charge is framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Fadhly Mohd Zamry requested bail of RM15,000 with one surety, adding that Khuzairi must surrender his passport and report monthly to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) until the case is concluded.
“I ask the court to consider the possibility of the accused absconding. Therefore, a bail of RM15,000 is reasonable given the gravity of the offence. The additional conditions sought should be allowed,” the prosecutor said.
Defence counsel Muhamad Aizat Fakri did not object to the proposed bail amount or the conditions. Judge Suzana subsequently granted bail of RM15,000 with one surety and approved the additional conditions requested by the prosecution.
The case has been scheduled for mention on April 20, as the court proceedings continue. - March 12, 2026
