Khuzairi Yahaya, SSM deputy CEO, pleads not guilty to accepting RM50,000 from former Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin’s son
KUALA LUMPUR: A senior official from the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to a charge of accepting RM50,000 without consideration from the son of former Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin eight years ago.
Khuzairi Yahaya, 55, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Registration and Business Services) of SSM, was charged with accepting for himself a valuable thing without consideration, namely RM50,000 in cash, from Muhammad Faisal Hamzah.
The charge states that Khuzairi knew Muhammad Faisal had a connection with his official affairs.
He allegedly committed the offence at the SSM@Sentral Headquarters here in May 2018 under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
This section carries a maximum punishment of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohd Fadhly Mohd Zamry offered bail at RM15,000 with one surety.
He also requested additional conditions for the accused to surrender his passport to the court and report monthly to a nearby Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office until the case concludes.
“I request the court consider the possibility of the accused absconding and that the RM15,000 bail amount is reasonable given the seriousness of this offence,” said Mohd Fadhly.
Defence counsel Muhamad Aizat Fakri, representing the accused, did not object to the bail amount or the additional conditions.
Judge Suzana Hussin granted bail of RM15,000 with one surety and imposed the additional conditions requested by the prosecution.
The court set April 20 for mention of the case.
