A star-studded gala night took place on Sept. 2 at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati as Theatre Group Asia (TGA) welcomed Manila’s theater, entertainment, arts and society circles to the international premiere of “The Notebook: The Musical.”
Guests arrived in keeping with the evening’s dress code, “The Look of Love: Romantic Formal Inspired by the Sky,” bringing an elegant and romantic touch to the occasion.
Among those spotted at the gala were National Artists Ricky Lee and Ryan Cayabyab, along with theater and entertainment personalities including Martin Nievera, Nyoy Volante, Sam Concepcion, Darren Espanto and Alexa Ilacad, among many others.
TGA’s staging of The Notebook: The Musical, based on Nicholas Sparks’ bestselling novel and the beloved 2004 film, it features music and lyrics by singer-songwriter Ingrid Michaelson and a Tony-nominated book by Bekah Brunstetter.
The story follows Allie and Noah as their relationship unfolds across different stages of their lives. Moving through memory, time, separation and the choices that shape a lifetime, the musical explores the enduring nature of love and the stories people carry with them as they grow older.
Directed by Filipino-American theater director Nicholas Polonio, the Manila production brings together a Filipino-led creative and performing company, placing Filipino artistry at the center of the internationally known love story.
The cast features Celeste Legaspi, Morissette, Sheena Belarmino, Rody Vera, Laurence Mossman and Benedix Ramos, portraying Allie and Noah at different points in their lives.
Following its gala, “The Notebook: The Musical” continues its limited run at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater through Sept. 20.
