- Former Liverpool and England defender Stephen Warnock has revealed he hid his childhood epilepsy from the club's medical staff due to fears he would be released if they discovered his condition.
- The 44-year-old football pundit spoke publicly about his childhood condition for the first time after hearing an interview with Hull City player Matt Crooks, who also lives with epilepsy.
- Warnock experienced seizures between a young age and 14, recalling that his first episode occurred while at a school computer before he woke up in a hospital bed having completely blacked out.
- He admitted feeling embarrassed and petrified by the unpredictable seizures, constantly worrying that he might suffer an episode on the pitch without knowing what triggered it.
- Warnock fortunately grew out of the condition after around three years without requiring long-term medication, going on to make 67 appearances for Liverpool before retiring from professional football in 2018.
