Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FC thrashed Geylang International FC 6-0 in the friendly held at Likas Stadium, Saturday night.

In a one-sided match, the visiting team from Singapore Premier League were on the receiving end right from the start.

The home side took a comfortable 2-0 lead at half time with newly signed import Gabriel Peres from Brazil opening the scoring in the ninth minute with a looping header before Daniel Ting scored the second in the 13th minute.

Darren Lok then extended the lead from the spot in the 62nd minute following a foul on another Brazilian import Jailton Da Silva.

Within five minutes, Saddil Ramdani added another before 42-year-old veteran Amri Yahya came off the bench to score two more in the 76th minute and one minute into injury time.

Despite the impressive scoreline, head coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee said there is still room for improvement before their season opener against PDRM FC on February 25.

“The result is not my top priority. What is important is for the team to find the right combination and how the players manage the task on the pitch as instructed.

“Although there were some improvements as compared to what we have seen in Thailand, it is still a long way and there are two more friendly matches to play,” he said after the match.

He also hopes to build a well balanced team ahead of the long Super League season which will only end in December.

They will also be involved in the AFC Cup competition apart from FA Cup and Malaysia Cup.

“I am not just thinking of finding the first 11 players (from the match).

“All the players are vital to the team and it is important to have all the players who were featured today to have the same balance to enable us to face the rather long season.”
