The ongoing legal battle between Teresa Kok and DS Jamal Yunos has intensified, marked by more pointed accusations and a clear warning of potential contempt charges.

Teresa Kok, the Seputeh MP, has made it clear that she will not tolerate what she considers crude and defamatory behavior from Jamal.

She has stated she will not hesitate to return to court if Jamal violates a High Court injunction again. Her stance is clear: mocking a court order is not only reckless, but it could also have serious consequences.

This dispute began in 2017, when Kok took Jamal to court after he accused her of misusing funds from Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor under the Selangor government’s Skim Mesra Usia Emas program.

In 2022, the High Court ruled in her favor, ordering Jamal to pay over RM300,000 in damages, along with legal costs and interest.

Jamal had deposited RM300,000 into a stakeholder account, but an outstanding balance of RM66,061.65 remains, covering additional costs and accrued interest. To recover this amount, Kok filed a writ of seizure.

Rather than address the matter through legal channels, Jamal opted for what many have called a publicity stunt. He auctioned off a slipper and towel he wore during a 2016 protest, claiming the money would help cover the unpaid amount. He also made controversial remarks suggesting that Kok might consider running a small pig farm, if her home wasn’t in Selangor, which many viewed as tasteless and offensive.

Kok responded strongly, stating that she had previously chosen to avoid public arguments. However, she called the recent comments crude, morally wrong, and a deliberate attempt to mock a lawful court decision.

“This is not a decision I make lightly,” she said, referring to the possibility of contempt proceedings. “But it may become unavoidable if such irresponsible actions continue.”

For Kok, this is no longer just a personal matter - it is about upholding the dignity and authority of the judiciary. She emphasized that a court injunction is binding and must be followed. Publishing or repeating defamatory content in defiance of a court order is a serious offense.

“Court orders are not optional, and no individual is above the law,” she said.

This situation also highlights a concerning tendency in political discourse, where court decisions are sometimes treated as material for public entertainment rather than respected rulings. Kok warned that using compliance with judicial orders for humor undermines the legal system and risks damaging public confidence in the rule of law.

Her message is straightforward: reconsider your actions, stop making defamatory remarks, and act with responsibility.

Whether this leads to more legal action will depend on what comes next, but Kok has made it clear that she is ready to protect not only her own reputation, but also the authority of the courts themselves.
