It’s finally here! Swedish fashion brand Acne Studios has opened the doors to its first store here in Malaysia — making its debut with an outpost in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. The opening on 1 July marks the latest milestone with Acne Studios’ Southeast Asia expansion, joining the boutiques in Singapore and Thailand.
For the uninitiated, Acne Studios was founded in 1996. Helmed by Creative Director Jonny Johansson, the brand celebrates its 30th anniversary this year — beginning from its origins as ACNE, a multidisciplinary creative collective, to becoming Acne Studios in 2006. The brand has been seen on the likes of NCT’s Johnny Suh, Thai star Win Metawin, singer Robyn and DJ Peggy Gou among others.

The Kuala Lumpur store is a vivid reflection of the brand’s ethos and DNA. Designed by Jonny Johansson in collaboration with Swedish architecture studio Halleroed, the boutique is anchored by Acne Studios’ signature colour with pink granite textures. The hue can be spotted on stone-clad pillars, flooring and the facade. Additionally, at the centre of the space is the undulating seating by Max Lamb.
For the store, Acne Studios has also partnered with Benoît Lalloz, the French designer who created the strip lighting. Another notable element that can be found in the space: geometric stainless steel fixtures. Even the doors’ handles come in the form of Acne Studios’ buttons. With the brand’s identity in full display, the boutique is conceived to mirror playful and creative juxtaposition.

So, what can you expect to find at the Acne Studios boutique in Kuala Lumpur? Firstly, there’s the limited-edition country exclusive T-Shirt featuring the Petronas Twin Towers. There are only 100 pieces available. The space also houses some of the brand’s signature offerings such as the Camero and Musubi bags, the Denim collection and its popular Logo T-Shirts.
