MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Thursday said no storm is expected in the country at least until the weekend.

Pagasa’s weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galicia said, however, that many parts of the archipelago would continue to experience scattered or isolated rain and thunderstorms due to the prevailing three weather systems.

She said the convergence of hot and cold air called shear line has been affecting Bicol, Western Visayas, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Negros Occidental, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, and Leyte where flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains were possible.

The easterlies – winds that carry humid and warm weather – will prevail over Caraga, Davao Region, and Southern Leyte where cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would occur, the state-run weather agency said.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Aurora will be affected by the northeast monsoon or "amihan," which brings cool, dry winds with light rains.

The same weather system is also affecting Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, the rest of Central Luzon, and the rest of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), the national weather bureau said.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also due to the easterlies, it added.
