MANILA, Philippines – With no cyclone forming inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), three weather systems would prevail, bringing isolated and scattered rains in most parts of the archipelago, the state-run weather agency said on Monday.
Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that the convergence of masses of hot and cold air called the shear line has been affecting Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, and Masbate, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms.
He warned of flash floods and landslides occurring in these areas due to moderate to heavy rains. The northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan', would prevail over Cagayan Valley, the rest of Bicol Region, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Aurora, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon, bringing overcast skies with rains.
While cloudy skies with light rain are likely over the Cordillera Administrative Region and Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon will be partly cloudy to overcast with isolated light rains due to amihan, according to the Pagasa forecaster.
The rest of the country, meanwhile, would likely have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, the national weather bureau said.
