SANDAKAN: A storm on Monday ripped off three wooden houses in the seaside village of Kampung Sim-Sim here.

The Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) was deployed to the scene after receiving a report from villagers at 4.15 pm.

A complainant said the incident occurred around 3.30 pm and affected three wooden houses — Lot 87 and Lot 79A at Bridge 5, as well as Lot 65 at Bridge 4.

Lot 65 suffered severe damage to kitchen and occupants were ordered to move to the home of the nearest family for shelter.

Lot 87 and Lot 79A sustained damage to the balcony roof.

Sandakan APM Officer Captain Sulaiman Salama said that upon arrival at the scene, APM personnel inspected the extent of damage.

There were no casualties, but houses were damaged by the storm. The monitoring team advised the residents of the surrounding villages to always be vigilant with the unpredictable weather conditions, he said.
