World champion Casper Stornes won the European Ironman title on Sunday on a shortened course owing to hot weather.
Stornes won in 4 hours 50 minutes 23 seconds, more than two minutes ahead of countryman Gustav Iden, with Spain's Benito Lopes four-and-ahalf minutes behind the winner in third.
With temperatures set to reach the high 30s Celcius, organizers decided to have only the full swim distance of 3.8 kilometres while the cycling was shortened from 180km to 125km and the run to a half-marathon instead of the full 42.195km distance.
The championships featured 49 starters and there were also around 3,000 amateurs from 83 countries competing.
