Strictly Come Dancing issues update on whether Delta Goodrem will return after injury

Delta Goodrem will be back on the Strictly dancefloor this Saturday, with the BBC announcing that she’s allowed to compete again after suffering an injury.

The Australian singer, 41, was forced to pull out of last weekend’s shows after injuring her rib during training.

While fans were uncertain whether she would have recovered enough to return to the show, the BBC has now confirmed that she’ll be performing again on Saturday.

“We’re delighted to confirm Delta has been given the all clear to dance again this weekend,” the show announced on Instagram, sharing a photo of the pair back in training.

“She’ll return to the #Strictly ballroom on Saturday night, and Abi Clarke will pop into her rehearsal room for a chat on Training Room Diaries on Wednesday evening.”

The singer’s fellow Strictly stars took to the post’s comments to celebrate, with professional Katya Jones writing: “Yay!!!!!” Meanwhile, British skeleton racer Tabby Stoecker commented: “Yay!!! So happy you’re feeling better @deltagoodrem.”

Goodrem, who is dancing with Kai Widdrington on the show, was automatically put through to the next week of the competition after being given a bye to recover from her injury.

It Takes Two presenter Ellie Taylor read out a statement from the singer last Monday (12 October) on the spin-off show, saying: “I’m absolutely gutted that a rib injury means I won't be able to dance on Strictly this week.

“I've been loving every second of this experience, so having to sit this one out is heartbreaking – especially after the high of Saturday night.

“I cannot tell you how much I love being a part of this magical show. I'm going to focus on resting and recovering, and hopefully I'll be back on that dancefloor very soon.”

The BBC added at the time that the singer “had been advised by doctors to rest” to recover from her injury.

Goodrem had previously been top of the leaderboard, having receiving the first nine of the competition in Week Three with her Salsa to a mash-up of Incognito’s “Always There” and Chaka Khan and Rufus’s “Ain’t Nobody”.

She missed out on Icons Week, which saw the remaining stars transform into music legends. Love Island’s Cach Mercer and actor Jaime Winstone were joint top of the leaderboard on Saturday night, with Mercer becoming Frank Sinatra for his Foxtrot and Winstone taking on David Bowie in a Paso doble.

Unfortunately, it was the end of the Strictly road for Paralympic gold medallist Dame Sarah Storey, who found herself at the bottom of the scoreboard for her Tango to Shania Twain’s “That Don’t Impress Me Much”.

She faced House of the Dragon’s Bethany Antonia in the dance off, however the judges chose unanimously to save Antonia.

There are now 11 stars left in the competition, with Storey, Gavin & Stacey’s Melanie Walters and celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton having been voted out of the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 6:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
