Kota Kinabalu:A talk on Stroke Awareness this Saturday (Oct 21) from 1pm to 4pm at Pacific Sutera Hotel (Level 3, Function Room 7) is open to the public.

Organising Chairperson Vivien Lee said it is organised by PKR Kota Kinabalu Branch Women’s Movement.

Api-Api Assemblywoman Datuk Christina Liew, who is also the party’s KK Branch Chief, will officiate at the talk.

“We are holding this stroke awareness talk to mark World Stroke Day 2023. We encourage members of the public to attend for their own good.

“There will be a Question and Answer (Q&A) session, too, for participants to find out more about stroke treatment and care.

“Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served,” Lee said.

The talk will cover topics such as Life after Stroke, What is Stroke, Different Types of Stroke, Prevention is Better than Cure and Stroke Rehabilitation, among other aspects.

Chairperson of National Stroke Association of Malaysia, Sabah (Nasam Sabah), Jasminah Ali is the guest speaker who will speak in three languages (English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin).

Jasminah, a sports trainer and physiotherapist, has been Chairperson since 2007.

She was instrumental in getting Sabah’s first non-governmental organisation (NGO) for stroke rehabilitation up and running in 2004.

Upon her return to Malaysia from Australia (where she studied and worked for many years) in 2001, she joined a pioneer team of doctors, nurses and physiotherapists as a volunteer to serve Nasam Sabah, when it was launched in Kota Kinabalu in Nov 2001.
