
Kuching International Airport’s arrival area roof was damaged following severe weather, as MetMalaysia issued thunderstorm warnings across Sarawak.
PETALING JAYA: A section of the roof at the arrival area of Kuching International Airport (KIA) was damaged during strong winds and heavy rain on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Borneo Post, airport personnel were deployed to assess the damage, while members of the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) assisted with traffic control at the scene.
Similar weather conditions were reported in several parts of Kuching, including Jalan BDC, where a tree was uprooted.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in an update issued at 3.55pm, warned of heavy rain and thunderstorms in several areas of Sarawak until 7pm.
The areas affected included Limbang, Miri — covering Marudi, Telang Usan, Bario and Beluru — Bintulu, Kapit, including Kapit, Song and Bukit Mabong, Sarikei, including Julau and Pakan, Sibu, Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, including Lingga, Pantu and Sri Aman, Betong, including Pusa, and Mukah.
