A teacher praises a student for improving from 26 to 58 in Add Maths, showing that hard work, progress and perseverance matter
WHILE high-achieving students are often praised for their examination results, one teacher has reminded everyone that academic progress can be just as worthy of recognition.
A mother recently shared a photo of her child’s Additional Mathematics examination paper on Threads, showing an encouraging message written by the teacher in red ink.
The mother wrote:
“This is the result. It’s not just one mark, but proof that effort and a never-give-up attitude are all worth it. Alhamdulillah… PASSED Add Maths.
“I am proud of you. Thank you, Teacher Amy and Teacher Su.”
The examination paper showed that the student had improved significantly, scoring 56 marks compared with 26 marks in the previous examination.
The teacher highlighted the improvement with a handwritten message:
“From getting 26 to 56 points. It is proof that hard work ‘works’. GOOD JOB.”
The student’s previous score of 26 marks meant they had failed the subject. Rather than giving up, however, the student continued working hard and managed to improve the score by 30 marks.
While 56 marks may not appear particularly high compared with the results of top-performing students, the improvement represented a significant personal achievement for the student.
The teacher recognised the effort and took the opportunity to celebrate the progress.
The heartwarming gesture also highlights an important aspect of teaching — success is not always measured by achieving the highest marks, but can also mean improving from where one started.
For students who struggle with particular subjects, having their hard work recognised can provide valuable motivation to keep trying.
Not every teacher focuses solely on the highest grades. Some also recognise students who quietly work to improve, and sometimes, a simple “GOOD JOB” can mean more than a perfect score.
