
Police arrest suspect after a female student is stabbed at a school in Banting, Kuala Langat; victim in stable condition.
SHAH ALAM: Police have arrested a suspect in connection with the stabbing of a female student at a school in Banting, Kuala Langat, this morning.
The Selangor Education Department said the injured student is receiving treatment at Banting Hospital.
It said a stabbing incident had occurred at the school today and that it was extending its full cooperation to the authorities in the ongoing investigation.
“Our immediate priority is to ensure that the injured student receives the best possible medical treatment and that assistance is provided to her family,” the department said in a statement.
It added that a team of counsellors, as well as guidance and counselling teachers, had been deployed to provide psychosocial support to students, teachers and the entire school community.
The public has also been urged not to speculate or spread unverified information that could disrupt the police investigation.
Earlier, Kuala Langat police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi confirmed that a female student was injured after she was allegedly stabbed by a suspect on the grounds of a school in Banting this morning.
Prior to that, videos circulating on social media showed a commotion at the school, with the suspect seen holding a knife and walking around the school compound.
Meanwhile, Mohd Akmalrizal, in a statement, said that police received a call about the incident at 9.50 am from a local woman, who reported that a female student had been injured within the school compound.
“Investigations found that the female student was stabbed with a knife by another female student. The victim is currently receiving treatment at Banting Hospital and is in stable condition. The suspect has also been arrested to assist in the investigation.
“The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine,” he said.
He urged the public not to speculate on the incident as it could hamper the investigation, and called on anyone with information to come forward at the nearest police station or contact the Kuala Langat district police headquarters’ operations room at 03-3187 2222.
