Kota Kinabalu: MADAM Kanaria from Beaufort, 69, left eyesight was restored following a corneal transplant surgery in December - thanks to the Lions Club of Tanjung Aru.

This surgery was done at QEH1 by Dr Liew On Heong and Dr Valarmathy Vaiyavari.

Unfortunately, her right eye cornea also decompensated over the years and blinded in year 2019. Since then, she was waiting for a local corneal donor.

It marked the eight cornea sponsored by the Lions Club and all of the corneal transplant surgeries have been successfully done.

There are still more than 20 patients on the waiting list for such donations.

The corneas were ordered from the National Eye Bank of Sri Lanka with processing fee approximately RM3,300 (US$735).

Those interested in supporting the project, are welcome to donate and transfer any funds to Lions Club of Tanjung Aru (Alliance Bank Account number: 1003-9001-0074-694).

Please send the receipt to President Yap Siaw Sen (012-8853352) for record purposes.
