Sukma 2024: Selangor wushu star first to earn two golds

KUCHING, Aug 15 — Selangor wushu champion Mandy Cebelle Chen today became the first athlete to earn two gold medals at the Malaysian Games (Sukma) 2024 in Sarawak after winning the women’s taijiquan final today.

Fresh from her golden victory for the women’s taijijian yesterday, Mandy once again dominated her opponent and scored her second personal gold at the biennial Sukma.

During the event at the SSC Wushu Hall today, the 21-year-old received the highest marks of 9.606 to beat out 18 other competitors.

Federal Territories athlete Kwan Yong Xin was forced to settle for silver with her 9.600 points, while bronze went to home representative Carmen Jia Min Chaw with her 9.573 points.

There are 28 gold medals up for grabs for the three days of events involving wushu, which combines martial and movement arts.
