Selangor MB Amirudin Shari says SUKMA 2026 aims to inspire a braver, more confident generation while giving equal importance to Para SUKMA athletes

SHAH ALAM: After a 28-year wait, the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) have returned to Selangor with a grand vision of producing a braver and more confident generation in pursuit of excellence, says Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

“This return is not merely about Selangor hosting the Games once again. It carries a greater trust and responsibility to provide the best platform for Malaysia’s younger generation to challenge themselves, hone their talents and build the confidence that they can go further,” he said at the opening ceremony of SUKMA XXII and Para SUKMA 2026 at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam here, yesterday night.

He said Para SUKMA had also been given equal importance in this edition as excellence should not be measured solely by who stands highest on the podium.

“Para athletes show us that human capabilities cannot be judged solely by physical limitations. They prove that perseverance, courage and strength of spirit can take a person far beyond what was once deemed impossible,” he said.

Commenting on the theme “Rentak Kita, Aksi Kita” (Our Rhythm, Our Action), he described it as a symbol that unites Malaysia’s diverse population, with the athletes’ performances reflecting their courage and true capabilities on the field.

He also expressed his appreciation to Selangor Youth and Sports Committee chairman Najwan Halimi, as well as the entire team of staff, volunteers and parents who had been the backbone behind every aspiring athlete.

The Games’ opening ceremony was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor, Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
