MANILA, Philippines — Science and Technology Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. said that a super El Niño is expected to bring scorching temperatures that could go as high as 38.7 degrees Celsius.
In a press briefing on Monday in Malacañang, Solidum revealed that nearly all provinces in the country may experience drought by the end of March 2027.
He added that the effects of El Niño will depend on how water is conserved and managed in dams.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Edwin Mercado urged the public to drink at least eight glasses of water to avoid dehydration.
This comes after the Climate Impact Lab said 6,500 deaths in the Philippines could be caused by heat-related illnesses due to the super El Niño.
