Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Umno Liaison Chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said every Umno member should unite and support party President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi instead of urging the latter to resign due to the Umno/BN performance in the recent elections held in six states.

Bung said the results of the State elections did not mean that Umno/BN had lost completely but only that none of the competing parties, neither Pakatan Harapan nor Perikatan Nasional, had won.

Bung, who is also Sabah BN Chairman, said it is unfair for Ahmad Zahid to be pressured to resign as party president, but instead all Umno leadership need to come together and bear the burden of the defeat.

“Umno has four years to correct the party’s structure to return to the basics and strengthen the party’s fundamentals.

“We don’t want people to say we are squirrels digging into our own houses… This is not good… it is enough for Umno leaders to go out and lavish themselves in Umno now but become enemies and try to destroy Umno,” he said.

According to Bung, only Umno traitors are actually an anti-President group.

These are the people who have divided Umno’s unity.

These are the people who have caused Umno to lose many seats and they are also the ones who are self-centred rather than keen on the interests of the party, the people and the country.
