The Food Safety Department on Thursday carried out surprise inspections at several dairies across the city, collecting samples of milk and milk products to check for adulteration.

Acting on directions of Punjab Food and Drug Administration Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner (Food) GS Pannu and Food Safety Officer Rekha Sharma led the drive in several areas, including Ram Tirath Road, Gwal Mandi, Putlighar, Chheharta Road and Majitha Road.

Officials said 12 samples were lifted during the operation — seven of ‘paneer’, four of milk and one of curd. These have been dispatched to the Government Food Laboratory for analysis to verify for quality and safety standards.
