Russian security service says suspect in shooting of GRU general Vladimir Alekseyev arrested in UAE and handed over, as accomplices tracked.
MOSCOW: A suspect in the shooting of a senior Russian military intelligence officer has been arrested in Dubai and handed over to Russia.
The Federal Security Service (FSB) said the man in his 60s was detained after fleeing to the United Arab Emirates.
A suspected accomplice was arrested in Moscow, while another escaped to Ukraine, Russian media quoted the FSB as saying.
The target, Vladimir Alekseyev, is the deputy head of Russia’s GRU military intelligence service.
He was shot in a Moscow apartment on Friday and hospitalised with wounds.
Alekseyev is under Western sanctions for his alleged role in cyberattacks and the 2018 nerve agent attack on defector Sergei Skripal in Britain.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused Ukraine of masterminding the shooting.
Kyiv has claimed responsibility for killing several high-ranking Russian officers since the 2022 invasion but has not commented on this case.
