TAWAU: Police arrested a suspected drug dealer and seized more 80 transparent packets suspected of containing syabu worth RM1,750, in an Ops Tapis operation at Batu 4, Jalan Apas, on Thursday.

District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect, a 40-year-old man, is believed involved in an active drug trafficking syndicate.

“Police are actively tracking down the remaining members of the syndicate linked to the suspect, and we urge members of the public who have any information to come forward,” he said.

He also said the suspect’s bag was found to contain the packet weighing 50.06grammes.

“Checks on the suspect’s criminal record also revealed that he had previously been arrested under Section 15(1)(a) and Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

Jasmin said the suspect is now being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for involvement in drug trafficking activities.

If convicted, the suspect faces the death penalty or life imprisonment, with a mandatory minimum of 15 strokes of the cane if sentenced to life imprisonment.
