An Australian man has been banned from contacting Norway's Princess Ingrid Alexandra, who is currently studying in Sydney, after police intercepted a suspicious letter sent to campus, Norwegian media reported on Sunday.

Security personnel working for the princess intercepted the letter addressed to her, Norwegian news agency NTB reported.

Ingrid Alexandra, 22, is currently studying international relations and political economy at the University of Sydney.

Norwegian domestic intelligence agency PTS confirmed the incident to Norway's public broadcaster.

Measures have been taken in coordination with the Australian authorities, investigators said, without giving further details.

The man is 63 years old, Australian media reported. He has been requested to appear in court on Wednesday over the incident, NTB said.
